Tile

Take a look at the new tile for the pool. Gonna look classy.

Sunset

Beautiful sunset last night. It even felt a little cooler - but humid for us. Still no rain here; forecasted chance of rain for the next week. We'll see.

Twitter

It's been awhile, but I want you to consider using Twitter. A great way to communicate with short messages. These messages can send link, photos, and a variety of other features. I think this a much safer way to communicate than using Facebook. Give it a try. I'll be using @oldcomputergeek to be associated with techie stuff. My main name is @steve_shaff.

Caretaking 101

Do you know what might happen if you leave a bowl of sugar in a kitchen cabinet over the Summer here in Gold Canyon? Do you have any thoughts about what creatures might find this bowl of sugar? Don't worry - if you haven't received a call from me today, it wasn't your bowl of sugar. However, if you think you did leave a bowl of sugar somewhere, give me a call and I'll remove it.

Anyway, the answer to one of the questions above is - ANTS and LOTS OF THEM.

Monsoon

We're currently holed up inside the RV at Canyon Point campground near Forrest Lakes, AZ. Thought we'd camp here for a couple of days to escape the heat. We did that! It's 60 degrees here and has been raining for a couple of hours - started right after we arrived. We're not getting much " setting in the sun under the pine trees". But, it is about half the temperature of home!!!!

The forecast is more of the same for the next few days - monsoons. If it looks like that will happen, we just might head back to the Valley of the Sun.

Trivial Pursuit

Another TP game last night. The girls came on strong, but the tied game was called because of exhaustion. The men are STILL undefeated!

Ants, Weeds, Monsoon

Yesterday, we finished up our latest round of Caretaking. Steve suffered minor injuries from lot's of ants at one leaking pipe location, but the weed problem seems to have diminished, somewhat. Just in time for the monsoon season! Today's paper forecasted a chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday, and, what looks like lightning bolts on Monday and Tuesday. The lightning storms are always fun to watch. As an old Kansas boy, Steve is especially fond of thunderstorms. The extremely heavy rain - not so much.

We are glad there is another couple in the park that we can play with this summer. We're not sure how we would have survived without them. A few days ago we had a long, but exciting, Trivial Pursuit battle - guys against girls. It had been several years since our last game, but we did remember some of the answers. Oh, the guys beat the girls!!! Is anyone surprised?

This is for the caretaking readers (well, for everyone, actually). I'm still posting on Twitter our park activities. At this time, only a couple of you are following me. Do a little research on Twitter, I think you'll find it is a secure way (unlike Facebook) to broadcast data to a select group of people. I'm also finding that Google Buzz is also used quite a bit as the same sort of mechanism; especially in the rest of the world. Rumor is that Google will announce a product very soon that will be a viable facebook competitor. Probably something built from twitter/buzz.

Anyway, let me provide again, my twitter name: "stevecaretaker". My other twitter name is: "steve_shaff". Quite a few of you use Gmail - you might want to try Buzz.

It's a Fry Heat

I thought of a blog about hot water at the cold water faucet, but an article in today's newspaper is the best way to say it. Have a read -

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Very hot today - 113° on our deck thermometer. Since our living room faces the setting sun, it warmed up a little in there, too! A/C is still running; it's 101° outside now.

Did I mention in the previous posting that our RV generator would not start. Well, it would not start. We took it to a CumminsOnan recommended dealer - East Valley RV Specialists. They said it was the LP regulator on the genset, and the cost to replace it was $835!!! Hell, a new generator is only around $2,000. Went to pick it up a couple of days ago; they said it was ready. I paid them the $835 and then tried to run the generator before we left for home - would only backfire. Not sure why they didn't discover that before they "said" it was ready, so we left it. Today we picked it up after the second "it's ready" phone call. It did start, and run, this time. Parked it in the driveway and will try to start it again tomorrow. If it runs, then we'll assume it has been repaired and we'll move it back into storage. It does seem to run quite a bit faster than it used to, but since EVRVS is an authorized Onan service center, then it must be set correctly. Don't you think?

We hope to head up to the mountains after 4th of July week. It'll be nice to sit outside among the cool pine trees. Did I mention that it was darn hot today? And, this is ONLY the first of July.

We will begin our next caretaking rounds tomorrow. Since the low temperature for this evening is only expected to be 90°, I don't expect we'll spend more than a couple of hours outside.

New news! I'm now the proud owner of a CPAP machine. What fun. I'll talk more about that later.
